Thomas Harness Racing Stables
GOOD HORSEMANSHIP EXPERIENCE INTEGRITY PROFESSIONALISM
Having come through the ranks in the harness industry he is now putting all the experience he has gained into training full time.
Jason left Nelson at a tender age of 16 to work for Dean Taylor at Ladsbrook where he went through Cadets and obtained his Junior Driver licence. His biggest thrill was getting his first winning drive on Mah Sish. He then went on to work for Robert Dunn's harness racing stable and then worked as a Farrier.
All these skills, experiences and knowledge is something he is now bringing to his own stable. He set up Thomas Harness Racing Stables in partnership with his Dad, Ian. They train from Elrae Lodge at Charing Cross. A facility that houses a 800m track with a rubber surface with an inside jog track and internal stabling.
Ian moved from Nelson to work with his son Jason at Elrae Lodge. Ian has worked with horses most of his life and started out in the galloping industry working for Cyril Pfferlie. Then in later years got his trainers licence in the harness industry. Ian's worked a small team of horses while working full-time as a Farrier in Nelson until making the decision to move to Canterbury and work with his son, Jason.
Ian has a keen eye for problem solving and has developed proven chiropractor techniques that have been known to turn horses around and really enjoys this side of the business.
